Overview

This page aims to provide humanitarians as well as health professionals in hospital and community settings with ready references on covid-19.

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. On 30 January 2020, the Philippine Department of Health reported the first case of COVID-19 in the country with a 38-year-old female Chinese national. On 7 March, the first local transmission of COVID-19 was confirmed.

The World Health Organization (WHO) in the Philippines issues its Situation Reports on COVID-19 on a daily basis. 

Advice to the Public
Technical Guidance

WHO provides technical guidance on various topics such as covid-19 critical preparedness, readiness and response actions; country-level coordination and planning; surveillance, rapid response teams and case investigations; guidance for schools, workplace and institutions, and others. This technical guidance is regularly updated. 

In particular, WHO shares technical guidance on infection prevention and control (IPC) during covid-19 pandemic, related to health workers exposure risk assessment, rational use of PPEs, WASH for covid-19 and others.

Training and Exercisess

WHO designed various online training programs meant for UN country teams, donors and civil society, healthcare workers and public health professionals, humanitarian NGOs and others: Online training modules and simulation exercises.
